This workshop will provide an opportunity to explore active learning strategies to support students with hands on learning techniques using 21st Century technology and will help support collaborative learning concepts applied by Pima Community College faculty to enhance critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills for students.
Lourdes Rivera comes to Pima Community college with a diverse background in community development, and over 15 years’ experience in grants, non-profits and social services. Lourdes has been working at Pima Community College, for two years with a recent position as Program Manager for the HSI STEM grant, known as Project EPIC (ENGAGE, PREPARE, INSPIRE AND CHALLENGE). As an Alumni of PCC and first generation graduate, Lourdes comes with an array of personal and professional experience in student and community services. Lourdes is passionate about making a difference in people’s life. “Having the opportunity to work one on one with students, and supporting faculty to improve student success, is one of the main objectives of this grant. Managing a Makerspace where faculty use 21st Century technology being applied with curriculum to enhance academic support and awareness in STEM through experiential learning is a grant objective that we are working to achieve “The opportunity to support in bridging the cap, for students success is very fulfilling”. Lourdes enjoys meeting new people, and hearing people’s life experiences. “I think everyone has a story that makes them who they are”. Lourdes enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and being active in the community.
