10 WEEKS OF TENWEST: WEEK 5

10 Weeks of TENWEST: Street Fest Music, Erin Boyd (Culdesac), Creativity Conference Day, & Rio Nuevo District

5 weeks down, 5 weeks to go… TENWEST is just around the corner!

Over the weekend, we thought about the countless hours that go into producing this beast of a festival, and we were reminded why we bust our humps to make it happen…

We have seen relationships formed at TENWEST blossom into successful partnerships, ambitious ideas turn into established businesses, important conversations translate into progressive policies… Ultimately, the end result of TENWEST is a stronger, more connected community. How could anyone pass up the chance to contribute to that kind of positive influence in their region? You are all part of it, the TENWEST community.

So, community is the word of the week… Starting with our Creativity Conference Day featuring multiple engaging panels, thoughtful partnerships, and workshops, to our diverse LOCAL Street Fest musical lineup, and finally our featured keynote presenter Erin Boyd of Culdesac and sponsors Rio Nuevo District, literally some of the most forward-thinking developers in the State of Arizona. Dig in below…

TENWEST Creativity Conference is bursting at the seams…with inspiring keynote sessions from local creative genius Joe O'Connell of Creative Machines, and a fireside conversation with internationally acclaimed musicians, Silvana Estrada and Jenny Ball of Jenny & the Mexicats (before they perform together that evening at Hotel Congress).

The Wednesday conference will also feature a variety of outside-the-box breakout sessions, such as:

  • Creating Culture: How To Build a Brand with “Creative Person of the Year” Michael Jackson (Mya Kai Creative) and Malcolm Critcher (BRINK)

  • Mastering Audio Excellence: A Workshop with Cloud Microphones and Bjorgvin Benediktsson (Audio Issues)

  • AI Unleashed: Crafting Creativity and Cultural Disruption with Moniek James

  • The Art of Selling Art: Creation, Business, & Care with Cynthia Naugle (& Gallery)

and many other sessions based around design, photography, songwriting, publishing, marketing, and tapping into your best, most creative self!

TENWEST is proud to work with amazing groups and businesses such as Creative Mornings, Parque La Ruina & Kolab (Hermosillo), Pueblo Vida Brewing, SAACA, Pima County Community Share, and others to bring this potent Creative Conference to the Tucson community. From high school students (shout out Community Share) to creative veterans in the Tucson scene... This day is sure to leave you inspired!

It's the 2nd annual free TENWEST Street Fest on Saturday, NOV 4th with 100+ local food and artisan vendors, interactive activities, art installations, a TENWEST beer garden, a fashion show, and of course, live music programmed ALL DAY with a diverse range of Arizona talent. Kicking off with instrumental vibe setters, Desert Music Project and Oms, into cactus country tunes courtesy of The Carnivaleros, Simple Pete, and the Senators, and finally rounding out with the soulful sounds for Street Blues Family and Carlos Arzate. If you can last all day 12 pm-9 pm, you will be taken on a journey through some of the finest original music Southern Arizona has to offer. New bands, old bands, DJs, hip-hop, blues, rock… Something for everyone. Grab a White Claw (or Athletic N/A Brew), kick back, and just feel the music soothe your soul.

PS - More artists to be announced soon :)

KEYNOTE -- Building for People: How Car-Less Cities Will Shape Our Future

What would a world look like without cars?

Culdesac is finding out. Erin Boyd leads Government & External Affairs for Culdesac, an Arizona-based company building the first car-free neighborhood from scratch in the U.S. Private vehicle ownership is the largest source of carbon emission pollution and a driver of disconnection as we spend hours commuting. Erin will share Culdesac's innovative approach to car-free urban design, the challenges and opportunities, and how to build neighborhoods that prioritize sustainability, productivity, and happiness.

Along with her work at Culdesac, Erin also cofounded Ashoka U, a global network for social entrepreneurship in higher education. Previously, she was head of partnerships for ChangeX, a platform that supports impact projects to build healthier communities. Erin graduated from Stanford University with a BA in International Relations and a Master's from the Stanford School of Education, and was named the 2022 Bike Hero for the City of Tempe.
