Tucson Meet Yourself: TENWEST Gateway Event

Tucson Meet Yourself, a gem of Tucson’s cultural and heritage legacy, has officially become the gateway event for TENWEST Impact Festival. This partnership is deeply intentional on the parts of both events.

Jim Griffith, founder of Tucson Meet Yourself, once reflected that the festival was “conceived of as a dramatization of the fact that we live in a plural society.”  In keeping the festival’s focus on community, diversity, and social awareness we are delighted to announce a new partnership between Tucson Meet Yourself and TENWEST Impact Festival.  Tucson Meet Yourself, one of the undisputed gems of our city and the bulwark of downtown festivals, will serve as the gateway event of TENWEST in October 11-13.  During that weekend, attendees can enjoy the music, food, and folk art demonstrations that have always been a signature elements of Tucson Meet Yourself but they can also stop by the TENWEST Festival Pavilion and the Forge to experience micro-workshops and an activities to kick off the festival. Festival Director Dre Voelkel believes that this partnership will be a signature element in grounding  the new, growing TENWEST in a sense of place.

“People talk about Tucson’s innovation community as being “new” but anyone who attended Tucson Meet Yourself in the past 40 years knows that Tucson has be alive with innovation, creativity, and the entrepreneurial spirit for generations.  As TENWEST looks forward into the big problems and solutions we will be tackling in the digital age– we believe it is vital to honor and celebrate how our community has innovated through resiliency and heritage in the past.”

Tucson Meet Yourself also sees there is a benefit to connecting their hundreds of vendors and folk artists to elements of TENWEST and have partnered with some of the entrepreneurial offerings such as the Heritage Food Incubator with McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship and encouraging them to apply to IdeaFundings pitch competition, which now includes a track for food entrepreneurs.

TENWEST will be entering it’s fifth year– a young upstart compared to the 44 years of Tucson Meet Yourself — but this partnership is a perfect microcosm for how Tucson should continue to think about its growth and economic development.  Through intentional, respectful, and sustainable collaborations Tucson can be a place that is rooted in the rich culture that has defined it in the past, while continuing to forge new paths, opportunities, and solutions for the digital generation.

Oct 11- 13th swing by the TENWEST Pavilion while you are enjoying the many delights of Tucson Meet Yourself.
